Luxuristas longing for a taste of "old San Francisco" flock to this "decadent" Financial District "classic" offering "first-class service", a "stunning lobby", "Victorian-esque decor" and "tastefully appointed" rooms with "high ceilings"; the "amazing" Garden Court serves an "awesome brunch" and "wonderful tea service", and if some say "getting a nice room is hit-and-miss" at this "rather tired old lady", others reply "they don't call it the Palace for nothing."

Great location.
Very noisy. Walls were very thin and can hear people walking in the hallways and even hear the TV from next door.

I would recommend this hotel for anyone who needs to be in the area. The rooms were clean but they really need to change out the carpet at least in the room I had. The room had very thin walls so if you're a light sleeper I would not recommend staying in this hotel especially during the busier times of the year. ...read more

Old

The hotel smelled musty and old. Hotel workers were on strike had to put up with the protesters. Since I prepaid there was nothing I could do about it. Actually just left and booked a nice suite at the Intercontinental Hotel. There was no luxury in the beds. ...read more

Beautiful old common areas.
Pompus staff dont deserve facility.

The staff is more than willing to let you down in every way than tell you why you should like it. 17$ internet fee for poor connection that stopped working. Intolerable smell of cosmetics from last guest. Major let down overall. line of other guests to complain to MOD. How does this hotel hold a 4.5 star rating? ...read more

Grand old hotel. Big rooms. Thick walls make for a quiet stay. Comfort, location, style, great bar and brunch with ambiance.

Loved its old world charm and the wood trim. Also liked that rooms were updated and the high ceilings.
It wasn't obvious from Market Street at first where the entrance was located.

My in-laws had one room and we had a different one both with same features. However I thought our bathroom looked sleeker than theirs as their sink was a separate stand with legs and appeared more cramped. The check in staff was helpful and we used the concierge once who was also helpful. Loved the old world charm and high ceilings. Beautiful glass ceiling over the pool. ...read more

Historical charm and convenient location.
High charges for daily Internet access.

The Palace seems to have been recently remodeled but has retained the historical charm and beauty unique to this hotel. There are many upscale hotels in the financial district but none that make you feel like you're stepping into San Francisco around the the turn of the century while still having all the modern conveniences and amenities of 2009. Further, it is literally steps (probably about 10 paces) from the Montgomery St BART/MUNI station. If you're arriving at an Airport, you can take BART all the way to the hotel for a few dollars and be dropped off right at the door. No need for a car as the hotel is walking distance to everything in the financial district. My only complaint would be the price of Internet access. It's $17 extra recurring every day. I expected at a 4-star hotel that Internet access would be included in the price. ...read more
